About

My name is Jessica Stickles. I'm a writer/performer living in LA, pining for NYC, who knows a lot about cartography and Theodore Roosevelt. You can see me improvising and performing comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. You can also see me at a diner ordering something called the "California Health Salad" which is cottage cheese, fruit and jello served over iceberg lettuce.

Gelato vs. Boats.

Why is it a woman going through a life crisis, who flies around the world, eats a bunch of gelato, touches an elephant which helps her find god, is celebrated as “letting go”, but a man going through the same life crisis, who buys a red corvette or a boat, is judged as being immature and silly? You could say both are attempts at self-exploration, just in different ways; yet, why can’t men dance around their new red Pontiac Firebirds, holding pink champagne above their heads, listening to Dido, letting all the fears in their mind go and not be called silly?

Maybe what I’m trying to say is there should be some equality in the way we judge certain behavior between the sexes, like a spade is a spade no matter who dealt it type thing. Or maybe what I’m trying to say is lets wait to call men’s boats immature until after we’ve gotten to ride in them, since it’s really fun to do that whole Titanic thing that never gets old.
